Pairing Wine with Weed – Guest Post by Weed an’ Wine

-This is a guest post from Weed an’ Wine, a friend and fellow cannabis content creator-

Welcome everyone, so guess who Troy asked to write an article, that’s right, Weed an’ Wine ;-)

I’ve enjoyed both Weed and Wine for many years, there’s something quite special about the combination. The depth of flavors and heady aromas. They are great together, perfect with food too. I mean, what’s not to like.

BUT, before anyone might be getting worried about the combination of Alcohol and Weed…

Yes, Alcohol is a really dangerous substance which does kill millions of people every year, unlike Weed which kills none. But we’re not talking about knocking back drink after drink. We’re talking about a small glass of Wine to enjoy during a session. Something to sip at and to savor the taste along with your Weed.

I would never recommend drinking lots of Alcohol and consuming Weed at the same time!

So you might wonder about my background, am I Sommelier, a Chef or the like?

Well, not exactly. I’m a ghetto aficionado with a naturally good palette and sense of smell. For years I’ve been picking good drink pairings without thinking much about it. I’m the guy at the party that can randomly mix things together with no plan and it ends up tasting great.

So a while ago I discovered Weedtubing and thought about how I could bring a slightly different angle to things. So that’s when I came up with the Weed an’ Wine persona, also you’ve got to love the alliteration, Weed an’ Wine just rolls off the tongue.

After I started to think about how I was picking Wines to go with my Weed, I realized I had been using classic cooking ideas. Choosing flavors that contrast and compliment each other. So for example, one way of using contrasting flavors would be to use the Wine as a palette cleanser to enhance the flavor of the Weed. You could think of this like an amuse-bouche at a restaurant before your main dish is brought to you.

I used this approach in Episode 1 of my series “Beautiful Pairings”, where I selected Orange Cheesecake with a Nebbiolo Wine.

Orange Cheesecake is, in my opinion, an incredibly complex flavor. There’s so much going on, the sweet Orange notes along with the layered Cheese punch. It’s so flavorsome, but at times it can be a little too much. If I’m having bowl after bowl, there’s a point my taste buds are almost tired from being so stimulated. This is where the Nebbiolo comes in, one sip and your mouth feels completely refreshed. The contrast of the light fruitiness of the Wine makes your mouth feel amazing. As soon as you’ve had that sip your mouth is so ready for more of that Orange Cheesecake flavor.

Another approach can be to take more similar flavors and have them compliment each other. So let’s imagine you’ve got some real dank Super Lemon Haze, well we could have a Pinot Grigio reinforce the Lemon flavor from the Super Lemon Haze. You’ll get a real spectrum of Lemon flavors but not too much because the dryness in the Pinot Grigio is going to help balance it out.

That’s a really simple look at pairing different Weeds and Wines, we can obviously get way fancier. We can use similar approaches but in a layered fashion. So we can create flavor-sensations that you would never experience with either on their own.

So before I leave you, I’ll give you another one of my favorite pairings, G13 and Pinot Noir. Now this one I’m not going to say much about, I want you to try it and let me know what you think. Tell me your thoughts on this pairing, or any others, always love hearing from people. Be sure to check out my channel on theweedtube.com, and follow me on Twitter & Instagram @weedanwine.
