Best Stick Vapes – Roundup & Comparison

This new classification of dry herb vaporizers stems from the evolution of Dynavap and its spinoffs, as well as similar-style vapes.

Stick Vapes are finger-held vaporizers with a longer, slender shape - similar to a blunt or a joint.

These portable vaporizers use tiny amounts of weed and are heated with a small torch or an induction heater.

My Favorite Stick Vape - The JoyStik by Vices OZ

JoyStik vaporizer by Vices OZ

This vape has massive flavor and performance, while carrying a budget-friendly price tag. The JoyStik was designed to be obtainable and affordable.

JoyStik is a portable ball vape. It has balls in the heater and in the cooling stem.

The midsection of the vapor path is all glass, with glass cooling balls. This makes the JoyStik taste amazing. The balls in the stem cool the vapor, making it incredibly smooth.

This vape performs best with a mid-sized torch.

It works with induction heaters, but it's designed and optimized for torch heating.

The lower silicone band can be adjusted to cover the airport or left alone for airport flutterers.

I like this vape a lot. It's cheaper than the other big sticks, and it tastes better. The cheapness comes through in build quality, though. The included accessories make the vape even better.

Tempest 2 Best Overall Baller

Tempest 2 stick vape

We've watched the Tempest 2 take shape over the last several years. MadHeaters has been a respected engineer in the vape space, proving his prowess by making advanced cooling stems.

The Tempest 2 is another stick vape with balls in its heater. This vape can be heated with a torch or an induction heater, and it works perfectly with either.

This vape has an audible *click* indicator and a visual heat indicator to let you know when it's hot enough to vape.

Tempest 2 really shines when paired with its accessories. The option case makes carrying and using this vape on the go extra fun.

This vape tastes great and hits like a truck. It's not as pure-tasting as the JoyStik, but the build quality is much nicer than the JoyStik's.

The Tempest 2 is also customizable. Mine is a custom green anodized version with a black sleeve. I also have a custom wooden sleeve from MGVS.

G3 All Glass - Beginners & Budget Friendly

Dynavap G2 all glass vapor path vaporizer

Dynavap created this class of vaporizers more than a decade ago with an all-glass vape.

Today, the G3 maintains that all-glass vapor path and a remarkably low $35 price tag.

This vape isn't quite like the other Dynavap vaporizers or the other stick vapes on this page.

The G3 has a small glass bowl with a built-in glass screen. It works best with a whole-nug or finger-picked-and-packed technique.

Using this vape requires a little more practice than the rest, but the flavors are incredibly pure.

At only $35, this vape offers exceptional value, and I honestly recommend it to everyone - especially home growers.

The G3 comes with a lighter and a metal case. It's a one-piece glass design. The metal cap contains an audible *clicking* indicator.

Simrell Vaporizer - Simple & Sophisticated

Simrell Vaporizer with handle attached

This is another story of a successful stem maker's first vaporizer.

The Simrell is made in Ohio by Austyn Simrell. This artisan vape and cooling stem is backwards-compatible with the standard Dynavap stems and tips.

The Simrell thermal engine has visual heating targets designed to help users customize their experience. Heat low for high temperature extraction, or heat higher for a lower temperature.

The Simrell is not a ball vape, but it's tuned to perform similarly.

It's a heavy-hitting vape with incredible hand-feel. This is the best-looking and best-feeling vaporizer on my shelf. it's an agile heater that can easily produce a wide range of extractions.

It's easy to use with a torch or an induction heater. The cooling stand makes rapid sessions fun and burn-free.

Stunner - Heaviest Hitting Stick Vape

Stunner stick vape is a thermal engine with balls

The Stunner is a different kind of beast.

This vape uses a 9mm airflow tube, instead of 8mm like all the other stick vapes.

It has more airflow and more extraction potential, but it's pure analog.

The Stunner has no clicking indicator. It doesn't have any moving parts, either.

This vape is heated with a large torch, not a small one, and the color of the flame is used as a visual indicator.

When the blue blowtorch flame turns orange, the Stunner is hot and ready.

The Stunner can be purchased with or without a stem.

I recommend the Stunner for at-home users looking for a butane ball vape.

Vestratto Anvil - Sedative & Stoney

The Anvil - heavy hitting stick vape

The Vestratto Anvil was one of the first Dynavap alternative stick vapes. It came with lots of controversy and butthurts, but the vapor eventually cleared.

This vape was designed for a heavy, sedative effect. It uses a copper thermal core to distribute heat and extract cannabinoids.

The Anvil is best used with a medium blowtorch or a specialized induction heater.

I typically avoid the Anvil because I'm aiming for a functional high. This vape shuts me down and puts me to sleep.

The flavor from the Anvil is more roasty and robust than the terpy convection vapor from the other stick vapes.

Flavor and effects can be very subjective, and this vape has a huge fanbase. Just because it's not my favorite doesn't mean it won't be yours!

How Stick Vapes Work

Stick Vapes are analog vaporizers. They contain no battery or electronics. These vapes are heated with a torch or an induction heater.

Early Stick Vapes were pure conduction vaporizers, making them more sedative and less flavorful than modern vapes. As these finger-held vaporizers evolved, so did the vapor.

Modern stick vapes use heavy convection, or a blend of convection and conduction, to create thick, flavorful vapor.

Stick Vape Origins

Dynavap may not be the original stick vape, but it's the one that started the trend The Dynavap OG won the hearts of vape geeks, and the Dynavap M won the hearts of the mass market.

The popularity of the Dynavap M fueled a generation of custom stems and accessories, which eventually evolved into performance-enhancing addons to milk even more performance out of the standard Dynavap tips.

Eventually, the modders and makers moved on to design their own vaporizers.

Not Ready for a Stick Vape?

These vapes aren't for everyone! Most people these days prefer a battery-powered portable vape, for on-the-go usage, or a desktop ball vape for vaping at home.

I've been medicating with vaporizers, legally, since 2012. I started reviewing dry herb vaporizers and other cannabis products in 2015.

I fell in love with creating content around vapes and cannabis vaporization. I'm passionate about the topic and the community. I love bringing people together and I love helping them understand the ins and outs of vaping weed.
