The Joystik Review – VICES Budget Stick Vape w/BALLS

Bede is back with another badass ball vape. The Joystik by VICES OZ is a portable dry herb vaporizer shaped like a blunt.

We call them Stick Vapes, and it's a relatively new classification of vaporizers.

The Joystik is a stick vape with balls in its heater and balls in its cooling stem.

It can be heated with a torch or an induction heater. A clicking disk makes a sound when the vape is hot enough to use.

Best of all - it's only $97 aftter code VAPEZONE.

JoyStik Design & Build Quality

The JoyStik vaporizer taken apart

Each section of The JoyStik is connected via threads. The glass tube with cooling balls slides into the mid-section. The heating cap is filled with smaller balls, and the metal housing behaves like a thermal battery, radiating heat and keeping the balls hot as air passes through them.

The entire device is a blunt-sized ball vape, and while there are several stick vapes with balls, the JoyStik is cheaper than the rest, and it has cooling balls in its stem as well.

The mouthpiece has two slotted ports that can be covered and fluttered, for the fluttering type, or closed completely by twisting the vent ring until the little holes are closed. I like mine completely closed. Fresh air mixing in ruins it for me by making the vapor feel ticklier and more irritating.

The black silicone pieces can be completely removed and customized. We'll likely see some cool artisan options from vape accessory makers like Eds TNT soon.

Not Designed to be THE BEST - But...

Bede, the man behind this vape and all the others at VICES OZ, has a very specific mission. He wants Australia and the rest of the world to stop smoking their weed and start vaping it. The challenge has been the lack of impactful and affordable vaporizers, and Bede is tackling it by providing affordable ball vapes to Australians and anyone willing to deal with Australian shipping.

The JoyStik borrows several familiar stick vape styles and features. Let's be clear about that. It looks a lot like the Tempest 2, but several shortcuts are taken with the JoyStik to keep costs as low as possible.

The JoyStick is not as nice or as refined as the Tempest 2 or Simrell, but it seems capable of outperforming both at half the cost.

Why I LOVE IT

This thing rocks. It's easy to figure out. It cranks out thick vapor that's remarkably delicious.

The JoyStick is designed to be mostly convection, but heating the bowl slightly can add significant conduction. By adjusting your flame angle and heating zone, you can completely customize the vapor and effects.

The cooling balls in the stem cool the vapor nicely, and the added glass components give it a wonderful flavor.

I LOVE that it comes with a little display stand and a leather cap removal tool. The cap removal tool makes removing the hot heater easy - a must for multi-bowl marathon sessions.

It's Not Perfect Though

The JoyStik is likely the best value stick vape currently available. It has the best flavor, and it goes toe-to-toe with the heaviest-hitting portable vapes, but there is definitely room for improvement.

Induction heater performance is lacking. The JoyStik works best with a torch. Induction heaters like the YLL 3.0 can heat this vape, but it takes a long time, and the heat isn't as thorough as a torch.

Fitments are wobbly. The tip and stem are held together with O-rings, and the connection doesn't feel as stable or secure as in the other stick vapes. The tip easily pulls from the body unintentionally while trying to remove the hot heater cap. This is my biggest complaint about this vape.

Midsection hard to open. The midsection with the glass tube and cooling balls opens from one end to remove and clean, but it gets stuck. Thankfully, it's hex-shaped, and a wrench easily grips it.

Several O-rings. The tip itself has two small o-rings, and the piece the tip slips into has two more. This area of the vape heats up a lot and needs frequent cleaning. I haven't had any issues yet, but I worry these O-rings will fail and need frequent replacement.

Winner of the Stick Vape Reach Test

I've been conducting a "reach test" with the JoyStik and all of the other stick vapes. I've been keeping them all nearby and using natural selection and preference to see which vapes get used the most. The JoyStik has been dominating, and I don't think it's just a honeymoon stage. This vape tastes better than the other stick vapes.

The glass tube and cooling balls may even give the JoyStik a flavor advantage.

This vape isn't as nice as the Simrell or the Tempest, but it has a brighter, truer flavor.

Is the JoyStik a Ball Vape?

Yes! It's a portable ball vape, of the Stick Vape variety. The threaded metal cap is filled with 2mm balls.

Can it be used with an Induction Heater?

Yes! The Joystik is compatible with induction heaters. It works best with a torch.

Is the glass fragile?

Glass is fragile, but this vape is designed with a protective sleeve. I've intentionally dropped it on concrete several times without issue.

Does the JoyStik hit as hard as the Tempest 2 and Stunner?

Yes! This stick vape has balls, just like the Tempest and the Stunner.

What type of weed grinder works best with the JoyStik?

It works great with either a fine or coarse grind. Even whole nug chunks work with this vape!

After a couple days of dialing In, I totally agree the JoyStik is a great & cost effective option. Appreciate the air hole silicon cover adjustment. Also the head air tightening is a breeze. Here it’s a close similar to the Tempest2 less the titanium. Hits hard. Glad to have one.

Yea after a week this thing is still impressing me. After comparing to the new Simrell, the JoyStik really shines on flavor.

I agree with you Troy!! I also own a full Ti Simrell and I’m Ngl the Joy Stik is just as enjoyable!! I honestly can’t believe how good it actually is. I can see this vape causing a little controversy because it’s actually just as good if not better than the big boys. It cost way less while being just as good, wow! Flavor and vapor quality are amazing imo

Very exciting vape. Incorporates a lot of the design elements from the best current vapes, some new very creative elements, and is delivered at a value price. Thank you for the review
