Simrell Thermal Extraction Device Review

The Simrell TED is the first dry herb vaporizer designed by Austyn Simrell of the Simrell Collection. Austyn has been innovating and refining the dry herb vape scene with high-performance vape stems and accessories for several years.

Simrell TED is entirely custom and does not rely on any Dynavap components.

This is an analog vaporizer. There are no batteries and no wires.

The S-TED is heated with a butane torch. It’s manually heated. There are two built-in click discs to help.

The Simrell TED is $300 for the Titanium version, as shown in my photos. There are wooden versions for less and more.

Heavier Hitting Portable Butane Vape

Simrell cut his teeth in the butane vape space. His Dynavap accessories took other vape platforms to new levels, and the Simrell TED sits in the performance class above the standard Dynavap.

S-TED performs on par with the Stunner, Thermal Accumulator, and Tempest vaporizers. The Simrell TED can deliver powerful one-hit extractions when heated aggressively. The 2-zone heating cap can be heated towards the tip for more convection, or lower for a more roasty conduction hit.

The S-TED doesn’t have the airflow of the ball vapes, but its power and performance are on par.

The Titanium S-TED is small enough to conceal or carry easily. It’s slightly shorter and thicker than a pen.

Simrell designed the STED to achieve the golden ratio of convection and conduction. The results are perfect, with rich, clean flavor and an evenly extracted herb.

Anatomy of the STED

The Simrell TED resembles a simple Dynavap-style vaporizer when in use, but underneath, the S-TED has a lot going on.

From left to right, the S-TED components shown above are:

  • Simrell TED Cooling Stand
  • Thread Cover Ring used to cover and protect the threads when the stem is used with other vaporizers
  • Heating Cap – This threads on and contains the thermal clicking devices as well as the convection heater
  • Simrell TED Tip / Engine – This is where the weed goes. It threads onto the stem, and the heater threads onto it.
  • Simrell Cooling Stem – This has all the style and function of the best-in-class Simrell Vortex
  • Intercooler – this twisty piece of metal increases the vapor cooling
  • Walnut Sleeve – this is the wooden sleeve my Simrell TED came with
  • Color Sleeve – sexy Simrell upgrades
  • Simrell Roach Clip Tool
  • Simrell Water Pipe Adapter Upgrade

S-TED is a modular device, and its components are cross-compatible with other Simrell, Dynavap, and 3rd party stems.

Simrell Style – Simple Sophistication

Simrell TED with upgraded wooden sleeve

Simrell TED is one of the classiest-looking butane vapes out there. This level of refinement is Austym Simrell’s wheelhouse, and the S-TED looks and feels exactly as I’d expect – it’s perfect. It’s weighty and balanced. Its satin finish feels luxurious and classy. It’s a pleasure to touch, feel, hold, and use.

Different than Dynavap

Simrell started with Dynavap, but the S-TED is an entirely different animal.

Simrell Tip and heating cap opened up

The Simrell vaporizer has a capacity of 0.1-0.2 g. Its heater is a small titanium spiral in a titanium cap.

Dynavap and the Simrell vaporizer are both heated with a torch, or an induction heater.

Simrell TED Configurations

This vape sells out quickly, and its options are subject to change.

The complete Simrell Titanium is $300. This is the vaporizer that I’m reviewing. It features a titanium Simrell Vortex stem with a removable wooden sleeve, allowing for easy upgrades and customization.

Austyn offers two XL S-TEDs with wooden stems instead of titanium. The XL Simrell TEDs are $285 for the Bog Oak and $275 for the Walnut. The XL is XX mm longer than the standard Simrell TED.

The Simrell Engine is also available for $175. You’ll need to have your own 8mm stem or Simrell MVS.

What’s Troy Think?

I’m still very early in my testing, but the initial response is incredibly positive. The vapor and vaping experience is excellent. It’s potent and pleasurable. So far, it’s two thumbs up, but I need to put it through a lot more tests before giving it a full rating.
