Tempest 2 is a portable dry herb vaporizer made to deliver potent and flavorful vapor. It’s the latest creation to come from the MadHeaters collaboration with PhatPiggie.
Tempest 2 is a portable ball vape. It’s heated with a small butane torch or an induction heater.
I have a special green anodized version of the Tempest 2. Several badass colorways are available at Vgoodiez for $225.

Design & Build Quality
The Tempest 2 is beautiful and simple. It’s built on a grade 5 titanium core with an aluminum heat shield. The heater is filled with zirconia balls and uses a stainless steel induction sleeve.

The stem and body of the Tempest 2 are designed to cool the vapor and minimize the presence of hot surfaces. The black aluminum body provides thorough coverage of the hot titanium, and it looks badass!

The tip is removable, and its screen can be configured in 3 different positions.
With the screen at its maximum depth, the bowl holds approximately 0.2 g. I’ve been testing it with both tight packs and loosely packed bowls, and it seems to perform well with both. I haven’t figured out how to set the screen in the other positions yet. I’ve always struggled with these types of adjustable screen systems.

The green titanium collar on my heater has turned a vibrant anodized blue from torching. I’ve been torching as low as the rim of the bowl to achieve darker roasts, as the Tempest 2 is typically convection-heavy when heated
It’s a Ball Vape, Kinda
The Tempest 2 utilizes balls to enhance convection heating significantly. Balls in the heater increase the surface area exponentially, resulting in a much thicker vapor.

The balls in the Tempest 2 heater are secured with a small stainless steel screen. The screen twist-locks into place and can be removed to access the balls. My Tempest 2 came with white zirconia balls installed. It also came with stainless steel balls and ruby balls.
Tempest 2 is one of the more potent butane stick vapes, and balls indeed power it. Most ball vapes are a larger format and are used as desktop vaporizers. Click here to see my Ball Vape Buying Guide and list of the best ball vapes.
Vapor Cooling & Vapor Quality
Tempest 2 uses a twisted metal ribbon as an innercooler. This small strip of metal in the vapor path pulls heat from the vapor as air is passed over it. The Tempest platform has been known for its exceptional cooling system.

The vapor from the Tempest 2 is cool and smooth. The potency of this vape is dependent on your heating method. You can heat it aggressively for dark extractions and close-to-combustion vapor, or you can heat it normally for a moderate experience.
To heat aggressively with a torch, I like to heat the lower part of the heater and bowl first, before torching the stainless steel portion of the heater. This adds extra heat to the bowl itself, enhancing conduction in the vaping equation.
Better Accessories – Tempest 2 Case & Reload
Tempest 2 is a MadHeaters product, and MadHeaters is known for its accessory integration. The MadHeaters has a special case designed just for the Tempest 2, as well as a new version of their Reload.

The Tempest 2 case is the best in class. This case is as close to perfect as I’ve seen a case come. The Tempest 2 fits snugly into the sleeve, with very little wiggle room.

Both ends of the Tempest 2 case pop off. One end opens the case to insert or remove the vaporizer, the other end exposes a debowler pick.
The end that removes has a magnet installed on its exterior and a Tempest 2 heater wrench on its interior. When using the Tempest 2, the case and its magnetic cap are incredibly useful. The magnet holds tight to the heater and the aluminum cap helps cool the Tempest 2 down in between uses.

What I Love
The vapor from the Tempst 2 is glorious. It’s an agile-use vaporizer, meaning the vapor output can be customized by adjusting your heating technique. This vape can put out thick, flavorful vapor or soft, delicate vapor.
Tempest 2 customizations are simple. The previous Tempest stem was riddled with configurable options and settings, making it difficult to fine-tune. The update to Tempest 2 is more straightforward and more intuitive.
I love that I can customize its balls, and that it came with the necessary media and tooling
What I DO NOT Love
Hate is a strong word, and I’m not yet ready to use it, but it’s close.
The Tempest 2 heater retains heat for an extended period. This creates challenges for rapid reloading and reuse because the clicking thermostat won’t function until it has cooled down.
Even with the magnetic case cap or the Reload, the Tempest 2 takes several minutes to cool down. The case allows it to be stored hot, but vaping two or three bowls in a row can be challenging.
While I’m Testing…
I’m still testing the Tempest 2 and comparing it to other vaporizers in its class. My early opinion is very positive and I’m already liking this better than most of the other butane stick vapes.
One thing is sure – the Tempest 2 case and Reload make this vaporizer a better experience than others in its class.
Tempest 2 is available at Vgoodiez or directly from MadHeaters.
