SSV43 Symphony: Glass Bead Vape Mod for the Silver Surfer

The Silver Surfer, or Silver Surfer Vape – SSV, is a classic desktop vape that’s been around for more than a decade. It uses a ceramic heating element to vaporize your herb. (skip to SSV Modification video)

7th Floor Vapes SSV - Silver Surfer Vape - 420vapezone Edition

It’s always been a powerhouse and simple to use once you get the hang of it – but for a newcomer, it’s like learning to ride a unicycle.

The Glass Bead Era

Glass beads are everywhere lately. We’ve seen them in cooling stems, in bongs, and even inside dry herb vaporizers.

The G43, by The Vape Critic, is powered by a heating coil and glass beads as a convection heater. The Glass Symphony is a desktop vape that utilizes the same technology.

The balls work wonders in both situations. The additional surface area and thermal mass can quickly cool down hot vapor as it passes through the cooler balls. Or the hot balls can quickly heat up the cool air and serve as a super-charged convection heater.

The thermal mass of the glass balls packs a massive capacity of calories, ready and waiting to be unleashed onto your bowl.

Glass balls are the magic behind the G43 and the Glass Symphony.

Glass Balls in the Silver Surfer (SSV)

I added 200 glass balls to my SSV. The glass balls are 3mm diameter, purchased from ebay.

Glass Ball Mod for 7th Floor Vapes SSV

The glass balls turn my 7th Floor Vapes SSV into a POWERHOUSE unlike any other dry herb vape in my collection. The SSV 43 Symphony hits harder than my G43 and harder than my flowerpot.

I used two screens from DDaveMod. The small screen is his 14mm rimmed basket screen I believe. The larger screen no longer appears to be available on his website.

Supplies used to mod SSV / LSV

I bought 3mm glass balls off ebay. They’re also available on Amazon.

I used screens from DDavemods. The small hat screens came with his EQ microdosing kit. The larger screens are from something different – maybe he will remember?

I've been medicating with vaporizers, legally, since 2012. I started reviewing dry herb vaporizers and other cannabis products in 2015. I fell in love with creating content around vapes and cannabis vaporization. I'm passionate about the topic and the community. I love bringing people together and I love helping them understand the ins and outs of vaping weed.

Hello Troy. Really hoping you are well my friend long time no chat but excellent work pioneering this new discovery and let’s hope it really catches on and things about some revolutionary changes for many current SSV owners and and as I’m sure you are hoping and expecting yourself create a lot of new interest in the SSV which could be even greater if 7 floor were to take this on board and make modifications.

Anyway would you believe it the excellent FC and widespread member Lazylathe so generously offered to send me his unused Silver Surfer vaporizer which I expect to be on route from Canada any day now along with a zam grinder he had spare which he also so insisted on gifting me- what an amazingly generous and friendly guy he really is when you get to know him.

He is the serious modder and tinkerer himself as well you know.

So I expect it will be be the less recent model of the SSV, and I saw one member comments in the FC thread about how he had the older heater cover and would likely need to upgrade to be able to make this modification.

So I will wait to see which one I received before I can discover if it will be possible or not but I’m still really excited to try the Silver Surfer for the first time ever to see if my crazy allergies can make use of it.

Anyway that’s all Troy just really high hi and and randomly commenting sharing and all hope you are ok and have a lovely reminder of Christmas, Alexis.

It’s been a few years since this video went up, but I only watched it for the first time a few months ago. Having an old SSV or two in the back of my closet, I liked the idea of seeing if they could be useful once more. Ddave did have the SSV Symphony 43 mod kit in stock, so I ordered a few, they arrived promptly, and I immediately procrastinated until now.
      Wow, now.
      Wow.
So yeah, that’s a ball vape.
There is now a bit more space in the closet, and a bit less at my sesh station, and the SSV is no longer the fussbuget I remember. The SSV Symphony mod made it a cloud machine, and you don’t have to finess the inhale. It’s still a weed hog, but more payoff now.
Thank you for putting this out there. It is educational, informative and helpful. Vapes are fascinating, but it’s helpful to get an experienced and informed perspective and information. An old vape has a new life because of you. Thank you for that.

That’s so great to hear! The SSV with balls is a monster of a vape. I didn’t even know DDave had an SSV mod kit. Elev8 makes one themselves too now

Man, I’ve seen a lot of your videos but don’t think I have ever seen you quiet as munted as you are in this. The perfect advertisement for the ssv mod. I mod all my vapes and have a retro-fitted desoldering gun I put together that gives the ssv mod a run for its money, all for under $160Aus, that’s about $2US. It’s a friggin’ beast with a ceramic heater.
