Dr Dabber Switch 2 Review

The Switch 2 is the highly anticipated sequel to the original Dr. Dabber Switch, the world’s first induction-powered dab rig.

Dr Dabber has been busy in the lab, shrinking the Switch’s size without sacrificing power or precision. The Switch 2 is the size of a tiny kitten, while the original Dr Dabber Switch is more like a human baby.

The Switch 2 brings a fresh look to dabbing and e-rigs. It doesn’t look like a bong or any other smoking device. Its appearance resembles a kitchen gadget more than a dab rig.

The Dr Dabber Switch 2 normalizes cannabis concentrates and blends them into a modern living environment. This is a dabrig that doesn’t scream “drugs!”.

I’ve spent more than 6 months testing the Switch 2 and comparing it to other dab rigs and other dab methods. I’m confident in this review and excited to present my insights and opinions. I’ve organized my Switch 2 review into sections for easy navigation.

Hits Like a Real Quartz Banger

The Switch 2 is the first e-rig to hit like a full-sized dab rig. It hits like a quartz banger, because it is a quartz banger.

Dr. Dabber designed the Switch 2 around the standard quartz bucket banger. It uses a real quartz insert. It’s the same size and shape as the standard 20mm quartz bucket.

It heats up fast enough to hit cold-start dabs without any significant waste. Hot start dabs are also an easy option, thanks to the included hot knife.

The induction heater pumps massive amounts of heat into the quartz bucket. The Switch 2 outperforms the standard Puffco-style atomizers. This vape hits like a real rig.

Switch 2 Induction chamber is quartz lined

Built-in IR Sensor Means Perfect Temperatures EVERY. TIME.

The Induction heater heats the chamber evenly and all around. There’s even a built-in InfraRed sensor. The software will adjust heating to compensate for larger dabs or colder dabbing environments.

The Switch 2 nails the temperature every single time.

Customizable Dab Experience

Cannabis culture is all about customizing, and the Switch 2 fully embraces the lifestyle. Several hardware components on the switch can be replaced with customized ones

Tune Your Dab with the App

The Switch 2 has a robust app with several settings to customize your dab sesh. The app enables you to completely customize how the device heats up and create your heating profiles. You can choose from Ascent, Descent, or Plateau modes of temperature management, and customize each temperature profile with different preferences.

The Switch 2 app can do more than any other e-rig app. This one is worth installing!

  • Temperature Control:
    • Customize the five preset temperatures and override defaults
  • Dynamic Heating Modes:
    • Switch between Descent, Ascent, and Steady temp modes
    • Or design your temperature curves
  • Session Control:
    • Each preset can have a different sesh length, up to 90 seconds
  • Monitoring & Tracking
    • View real-time temperatures, live on your screen
    • Tracks your sessions and settings over time
  • LED & Haptic Customization
    • LED colors, brightness, and themes are fully customizable.
    • Haptic Feedback can be disabled
  • Profile Sharing
    • Share your custom heating profiles with your friends
    • Or upload for all Dr Dabber users to try
  • Firmware Management
    • Keep your Switch 2 running the latest firmware

Upgradeable Glass & Bubble Cap

The Switch 2 comes with a nice joystick-style bubble cap featuring a magnetic attachment ring.

I thought the original bubble cap was great until I tried the Switch 2 with an upgraded bubblecap.

Switch 2 features a magnetic bubblecap that is easily upgraded

Dr. Dabber designed the Switch 2 to be compatible with any 20mm bubble cap. Autospinners cause the oil to circulate within the chamber, significantly increasing the vapor density. Bubblecaps vary in airflow, and I love the way the Switch 2 hits with a high airflow bubblecap.

You don’t need an expensive bubblecap! I love my Mothership cap, but there are much cheaper bubblecaps out there that will work just as good.

Dr. Dabber Designed the Glass Bubbler for Easy Adaptability

The Switch 2 bubbler is designed to fit stock glass tubing sizes, making it easy and affordable for glassmakers to integrate bubblers. Other erigs use custom joints and fittings that require glassmakers to purchase a special tool to make their glass.

Dr Dabber Hot Knife Included

The Switch also includes an excellent heated dab tool. The Dr. Dabber DROP is the best heated dab tool out there.

The Dr. Dabber DROP features two heating profiles: low temperature and normal. Double-click the button to activate low-temperature mode, or click once to heat up normally.

Low Temp Mode is made for super sticky, fresh-pressed hash rosin. The LOW TEMP profile is perfectly tuned for gently melting and sculpting sticky hash. I use it to carve out a small dab-sized slice of rosin. No other hot knife does this.

Double-click to carve and sculpt—single-click to drop. The Dr.Dabber DROP is the best hot knife for fresh-press. PERIOD.

The tip is durable and will never need replacement. The cap is magnetic and secures to the back-end of the hot-knife while the DROP is in use. The DROP charges via USB-C

Fast Charging USB-C Included

Most vapes no longer include a wall charger, and if they do, it’s typically a low-power plug.

Dr. Dabber includes a high-powered 36-watt charge plug with the Switch 2. This plus has a USB-C interface and includes a C-to-C cable for charging the Switch 2.

This charger will fast-charge the Switch 2 and any other device capable of fast charging. This is a HUGE perk for anyone with other USB-C devices. These quick chargers are incredibly convenient.

Easy Cleanup

Cleaning up after each dab is very easy. A simple Q-tip is all it takes to soak up any remaining oil stains.

I like to wait about 10 seconds for the oil to thicken. Sometimes I even blow gently into the chamber to help cool it down. A single cotton swab / Q-tip should wipe out the leftover dab. An isopropyl wet wipe or ISO-Swab will leave the Switch 2 cup clean and ready for the next dab.

When I’m dabbing around the house, I use those little isopropyl-filled cotton swabs. They’re perfect for traveling, too. When I’m at my desk, I use the spray bottle of alcohol to clean my Switch. I spray alcohol straight into the cup and swab it out with a paper towel or a few Q-tips.

Deep cleaning the Switch only takes a few minutes. The quartz cup can be soaked or cleaned with a torch. I like to gently torch it once per week. While the cup is cooling, it is a good time to clean out the chamber. Isopropyl alcohol and Q-tips are the perfect tools for the job. Make sure to clean the little hole where the vapor connects to the bong!

My Favorite Features

  • The Switch 2 gives a warning on its last dab. A brief flash of white light at the beginning of the heating cycle indicates that you’ll need to charge. I LOVE that it gives the warning BEFORE its last dab! Dr. Dabber has his priorities in order.
  • I love that it has a dedicated on/off switch. The front buttons are only for dabbing and adjusting the dab temperature controls. It’s so quick and easy to turn off or on during travel. I never knew I needed this, but it’s a must-have for erigs.
  • Dissassembly is Easy. There’s nothing to unthread and potentially ruin by cross-threading. The glass pulls out easily, and the top is securely connected by magnets. Swapping from quartz to sapphire is easy.
  • Cleaning is easy. There aren’t many parts. The parts that get dirty are easy to soak or clean with a torch.
  • Customizing your dab is easy. The ability to switch between Ascent, Descent, and Steady dab modes is brilliant and wonderful. Preferences make the world go ’round, and this is one of those settings that helps dabbers dial in the perfect experience.

My Complaints

There isn’t much to dislike about the Switch 2, but after several months of use, I’ve noticed a few minor things that could be improved.

  • The glass mouthpiece gets sticky after about 10 dabs. I’m not sure if this is me sucking too hard or dabbing too large. I’ve developed a new habit of wiping down the mouthpiece between dabs.
  • The quartz and sapphire insert spins freely in the chamber. This is a very minor annoyance. When cleaning the Switch 2 with a Q-tip, the cup may spin a bit, making it more challenging to clean thoroughly.

Sapphire Dab Dish Upgrade

Dr. Dabber offers a Sapphire insert to replace the quartz. Sapphire has a smoother vapor signature.

I love the Sapphire dish and don’t plan on using the quartz. The Sapphire expresses the subtle flavors of rosin better than quartz. Quartz is bright and loud on the front of the palate but sapphire has a better representation of terpenes overall.

Sapphire is more fragile than quartz. It’s still torchable, but you need to be gentle. Heating it too quickly or unevenly will cause it to crack. The Sapphire insert is about $80. It’s worth it.

Dr. Dabber also offers a Titanium insert for the Switch 2. This cup is only $24, and I have not tried it. Replacement Quartz inserts are available for $39. With proper care, these inserts should last forever.

Switch 2 has a hardware on/off switch

The Switch 2 has a physical on/off switch. Most eRigs are “click power button 5 times.”

Traveling with the Switch 2

This is the perfect e-rig for traveling. The Switch 2 is compact enough to carry in the car or in small side bag.

On-the-go maintenance can be as simple as an ISO wipe or a Q-tip.

Here’s what I pack with my Switch 2.

  • ISO Q-Tips (these are AMAZING) – one of these and a regular Q-tip will clean the Switch 2 back to new.
  • ISO WIpes – Every 3rd dab gets a deeper cleaning. These alcohol prep pads can be used in the chamber or to wipe the cap and mouthpiece. These are a must-have companion for dabbers.
  • Regular Q-Tips. You can get by with the alcohol Q-tips if your dabs are small, but if you’re globbing, you’re going to need a bigger swab.

Is the Dr Dabber Switch 2 Dabrig worth $420?

The Switch 2 is the best portable dab rig out there. It’s not as pocket-friendly as some other devices, but the compromise in size yields significant gains in functionality and power.

This is the only eRig that hits like a real bucket banger. There are plenty of cheap dab rigs that slap, but they all hit like an e-rig. The Switch 2 has the power of a real rig, and its vaping interface feels like a real rig.

I still prefer Terp Slurpers when I’m dabbing at home, but for the first time, I feel like portable dabs aren’t a complete waste of my rosin. The Switch 2 is ideal for dabbing on the go or at home. I’ve been enjoying my dab time away from my desk.

Dr. Dabber Transparency Statement

Dr. Dabber is a reputable company. I’ve met them and hung out with them numerous times over the last decade. They’ve never tried to buy my opinions or butter me up with fancy dinners, but they did provide the Switch 2 in exchange for an honest review. They also hooked me up with the bubble cap and sapphire insert.

I do have an affiliate relationship with Dr. Dabber, and purchasing through my affiliate link will earn a small commission.

Community Reviews

Truth be told, I always dreaded serving up dabs, whether it be not getting it hot enough for the person I’m giving a dab, or getting a banger chassed from overheating. Call these skill issues if you will, which is why I was very intrigued when I learned about the Dr. Dabber Switch 2. I truly believe this device will give you the dab you want with reliability, great flavor (owed to the solid material selection) and most prevalent being ease of use.

The Dr. Dabber Sync app is foundational to making the Switch 2 go from a great experience to a transformative one. The UX is thoughtfully arranged and covers everything from animating the LED light bar, down to choosing your default heating profile. The UI elements are skemorphic for added accessibility, with menu functions explained in detail, including a running list of your dab stats.

Software can only get you so far, you need the hardware to succeed at the experience as well, which I’m delighted to report Dr. Dabber Switch 2 does in spades. The inductive heating goes to town on full melt concentrate, leaving no cold spots and quickly clouding the included glass bubbler. Also can every electric dab rig please include a hotknife? Bottom line. This is a beautiful piece of hardware that absolutely justifies it’s $420 MSRP. Simplicity balanced with versatility and performance in spades. The included top and glass are weak points in an otherwise exciting product.

I've been medicating with vaporizers, legally, since 2012. I started reviewing dry herb vaporizers and other cannabis products in 2015. I fell in love with creating content around vapes and cannabis vaporization. I'm passionate about the topic and the community. I love bringing people together and I love helping them understand the ins and outs of vaping weed.

As a VERY avid concentrate enthusiast, I was compelled to buy one based on Troy’s initial thoughts (discussion, videos, live streams). I must agree on most points. Nothing beats a proper rig and a naturally cooling GOOD quartz nail, but dang this thing is close!

Saphire is a nice upgrade, but I’ve not replaced mine yet (broke during cleaning…complete user error).

No complaints, but a VERY simple display of current temperature would be a NICE addition so I don’t have to use the app, or remember if it’s on ascent, descent, or constant. Don’t make me remember things Dr. Dabber!!

From Ashes to Ember: A Story of Loss and Reignition

In August 2025, tragedy struck like a thunderclap. My mancave—my fortress, my archive, my temple of solace—was reduced to ash by an unforeseen electrical fire. But it wasn’t just furniture and gear that vanished in the flames. I lost over 30 years of Army awards and decorations—hard-earned honors from a lifetime of service, sacrifice, and grit.

And along with them, my smoking apparatuses—each one a companion to countless reflective moments, deep conversations, and well-earned escapes. Irreplaceable, every single one.

Then came winter. Not just any winter—the winter of 2024. It crashed down like a frozen hammer, and with no convection or conduction heat, I turned to combustion. Every day, without fail, I lit a flame just to push back the cold.

It felt like the universe had taken everything.

But then, out of the smoke and snow… came a spark.

Troy and Jerry. The ThinkDank. A giveaway I’d never have imagined myself entering, let alone winning. But I had nothing left to lose—so I rolled the dice.

    And I won.

The Dr. Dabber Switch 2. Alongside it, The Drop hot knife—and what was meant to be the Mothership carb cap. Though the carb cap, unfortunately, never arrived, I hold no bitterness. Life has a way of giving what we need in forms we don’t always expect. The gesture itself, the kindness behind the offering, and the sheer spirit of the community—that meant more than any single piece of glass ever could.

The Switch 2 wasn’t just a win—it was resurrection in a box. Smooth, elegant, effortless—this wasn’t a dab tool, it was the dab tool. The Switch 2 doesn’t just vaporize—it revitalizes.

From the ashes of loss, a new ritual was born. My spirit, once dimmed, was reignited.

I am not a huge fan of concentrates because of all the headaches of having a torch and a rig and tools to drop the dabs with then all the additional work after. And hopefully I get a hit before it cools down again. What a bother that is. Even when with a e-nails and the whats nots you still have so many steps and with some will of luck and God on your side you maybe you get a decent hit but probably not. That’s completely gone now with my purchase of a Dr. Dabber Swith2. I use it everyday without any worries its so easy a caveman could do it.
