If you ask any veteran cannabis enthusiast, “How do I clean my bong?”. 99% of people will tell to either use rubbing alcohol & salt or Orange Chronic bong cleaner. What is Orange Chronic Bong Cleaner? Orange Chronic is like rubbing alcohol & salt on steroids. Although the contents are a closely guarded secret, we suspect it’s comprised of salt, rubbing alcohol, and magic.
It’s hard to go wrong with the alcohol and salt method. We’ve noticed the following:
- Alcohol – The higher the alcohol content, the better it seems to work. 91% Isopropyl Rubbing Alcohol seems to be the easiest to find. If you don’t feel like driving to the store, you can order alcohol from Amazon.
- Salt – I’ve used everything from regular table salt to this “kosher salt” Troy suggested. I’ll admit, the coarseness of the kosher salt helped make cleaning easier. Regular table salt also did the trick.
Alcohol & Salt vs Orange Chronic Bong Cleaner
We got our filthy ash catcher and set out to end this debate once and for all. Alcohol and salt were used to clean the bottom half of the ash catcher. Orange Chronic Bong Cleaner was used to clean the top half. The three criteria being used to judge the cleaners: cleaning power and cleanliness.
Cleaning Power
Both cleaning agents did a pretty spectacular job melting away all the brown gunk built up in our bong. The Orange Bong Cleaner melted everything fairly instantly on the first try. The alcohol & salt combination melted away the gunk equally fast. I’m labeling this one a draw between the two.
Cleanliness
Which method produced the cleaner end result? The alcohol & salt combination cleaned everything except for a single spec. The Orange Chronic cleaned 100% of the buildup and left a fresh orange scent. For that reason, the Orange Chronic Cleaner has been crowned the winner of our test.
How to Clean Your Bong Using Alcohol & Salt
- Towel
- Kosher Salt (table salt can be used if that’s all you have)
- 91% Isopropyl Rubbing Alcohol
- Sink, tub, or basin
Step 1 Run hot water through the bong, be careful not to make it too hot so you don’t burn your hand and accidentally drop the bong (Learned that one the hard way)
Step 2 Fill 25% of the bong up with rubbing alcohol
Step 3 Fill the bong with salt until the salt is roughly 1 inch in height
Step 4 Shake! Shake! Shake! Agitate the bong until all the grime and gunk has dissolved into the rubbing alcohol
Step 5 By now the rubbing alcohol should be brown/black. Dumping it out can be a little tricky because of how easily that shit stains surfaces. Try to avoid dumping this down sinks, if you have to dump it down the sink dump a lot of water after it. I personally prefer to dump the sludge down the toilet
**Be careful when dumping out the dirty rubbing alcohol, it will stain**
Step 6 If the bong isn’t 100% spotless after doing this, simply repeat steps 1-5 one more time
Step 7 Wipe down the bong, your hands, and anywhere else you might have spilled alcohol or salt
How to Clean Your Bong With Orange Chronic
- Towel
- Sink, tub, or basin
- Orange Chronic Bong Cleaner
Step 1 Fill roughly a quarter of your bong with the Orange Chronic
Step 2 Shake! Shake! Shake!
Step 3 Dump it, rinse it and wipe down any spills
The orange cleaner is most likely made with D’limonene which a very powerful degreaser derived from the peels of citrus fruit. Very commonly products sold using D’limonene will be labeled as orange cleaner of some kind. Like fast orange hand cleaner for example. In its concentrated form it is very corrosive and must be handled with care. But when diluted it would easily strip all the residue from the inside of a bong. If you used pure clear food safe D’limonene terpenes you could even evaporate it off and get completely clean resin if the source of resin was pure (like from the cooling unit of a vape). It is amazing stuff and actually very common as an additive in many “green” products you already have.
You’re a terrible waster. A couple tablespoons of either the Orange Chronic or alcohol are all that’s needed, and you definitely don’t need an inch of salt. 99% isopropyl and salt kicks the crap out of OC by the way.
some times things are hard to understand but it seems you have said that if I cleaned my
German glass with this D’limonene I would have resin once it evaporated that I could enjoy a buzz from ? As long as it came from a pure source in the pipe meaning anywhere after the burning area
of the glass ?
Have always wondered what that dark amber resin would be like but after being stripped off using Orange Chronic and Peace Water I wasn’t that curious. I will try your idea and let you know.
