Check out my Unboxing Video while I hash out the review of the Utillian 850

I’ve been testing this Utillian 850 for a little over a week now. This is easily the best Utillian dry herb vape I’ve ever tested, and I have at least 4 or 5 other Utillian herb vapes in my collection. Tvape has been sending me Utillian vaporizers for years.
It’s an interesting vape. It’s hybrid heating with a convection-first heating profile, high quality materials, and a huge bowl.
Utillian 850 Vaporizer Ranking
The Utillian 850 has a preliminary ranking of 3.9 out of 5.
That puts it at #12 on my list of Best Portable Vapes. That’s extremely respectable, and the first time a Utillian vape has ranked this high on my list. This list is always in motion as new vapes are tested and compared.

Simple Interface. Simple Vaporizer
The Utillian 850 is a straightforward portable dry herb vaporizer that focuses more on simplicity and solid performance than fancy features. It’s a simple session vape. There’s no on-demand heating or Bluetooth app connectivity.
The top pops off and snaps back on with magnets. Bowl access and user interface are extremely important to me. A good vape needs to be easy to open and quick to reload.
The Utillian 850 top is one of the easiest to remove. No twisting or tugging required. It’s even easier than the Venty, just not as nice. Magnets keep it in place, which provides a satisfying snap when putting the cooling unit back onto the vape.
The swiveling mouthpiece has two distinct lock points – straight out and perfectly closed. This is a nice touch.

Easy Load Bowl of Gold
The bowl is large and the easiest loading bowl I’ve tested. It’s coated in actual gold.
This vape has a large spoon-shaped funnel leading right into the bowl. It’s the perfect loading size, too. Fill the bowl and the funnel area and tamp it all down into the bowl to achieve the perfect pack. It holds .36g of fine grind.

The gold chamber isn’t just for looks. Gold is extremely thermally conductive. It transfers heat faster than stainless steel, and it’s flavor neutral. Users with metal sensitive palates may appreciate the extra effort here.
I love the big funnel-shaped bowl. It’s designed with speed and ease of use in mind.
There’s also no crevices for herb or AVB to get stuck in.
The bowl can hold as much as .36g or as little as .15g. Many smokers may prefer this bowl size as they’re used to larger doses. Dedicated vaporists often prefer smaller doses with maximum efficiency.

Build & Design
The Utillian 850 feels rigid and durable. The vape’s body is plastic, but there is no flexibility. It doesn’t feel cheap.
Its cooling unit is made of carbon reinforced PEEK and black ceramic zirconia. It snaps onto the body of the vape with strong magnets.
The bottom of the vape has a built in poke, stir, and tamp tool. It stores away neatly and its heat fits perfectly in the bowl.
There’s a sliding valve to close the air intake while not in use. This will keep dust and lint out of the convection heater.
Utillian 850 has a USB-C port on the bottom and it supports every fast charging plug I’ve tried.
What I don’t Like
There’s nothing revolutionary about the Utillian 850. It’s a jack of all trades and master of none.
The gold and black ceramic zirconia are high end materials chosen for flavor purity, but the vapor still has a hint of silicone “new shoes” flavor for the first few days or weeks of use.
My vapor tasted bad for the first 5 or 8 bowls. After replacing little red gasket, the flavor of the Utillian 850 is quite nice.

I complained to TVape about the flavor issues caused by this gasket and they promised that they’re working on it. I will update this review if/when they make product changes.
