The XL Aroma 3 is a larger version of the popular spinning ball bearing weed grinder.
The Old Mate Aroma 3 grinder is the famous stainless steel grinder with a ball-bearing top. It spins freely when the herb is completely ground up.
The larger version is 83.5mm, or 3.28″. It’s not as large as some of the other jumbo weed grinders, but the weight and functionality make it the King. The King of Big Weed Grinders comes with a cost of $250.

First Impressions of the XL Aroma 3
Super-sized, Shiny, Spinny, Stainless Steel. It fills my man-hands, and it feels incredible.
This grinder is massive. It’s nearly two pounds of stainless steel. Each of the three pieces arrived individually wrapped in bubble wrap and sealed in bubble bags.

The bottom of the grinder is flat, featuring a laser-engraved logo. The first 150 pre-orders were for the Founders Edition.
Design, Build, & Materials
The XL Aroma 3 is one of the most unique grinders on the market. It’s completely threadless. It’s held together with magnets instead of threads. It’s 304 stainless steel from top to bottom.

Unlike soft aluminum weed grinders, the Stainless Steel Aroma 3 XL is durable and rugged. This grinder will never need sharpening. Its teeth will remain sharp as long as you own it.
How the XL Differs from OG Aroma 3
The apparent differences are size and weight. The Aroma 3 XL is 3.28″ compared to 2.5. They’re both heavy, but the XL version is a substantial piece of metal. I’ve traveled with the regular-sized Old Mate, but the XL version is too heavy to lug along.
Aroma 3 XL is easier to turn than the smaller version. The larger diameter shape allows more leverage. When grinding a single nug, the XL version is very easy to turn.
The Old Mate XL has two bearings instead of one.
Aroma 3 XL can grind and hold more weed than the regular size. The grinding area can have several grams worth of nugs and grind them all at once. The regular Old Mate Aroma can grind a gram or two and hold an eighth of an ounce. The XL Aroma 3 can grind 2 or 3 grams and hold a quarter ounce of ground material.

Aroma 3 XL Top Storage
The Old Mate XL features a hollowed-out top piece that can be used to store nugs or other small items. The Founders Edition included three plastic lids with magnetic closures.

The top section has a hexagonal-shaped cutout. Three of its corners are equipped with magnets and tiny screw holes.
There’s no silicone gasket to make the compartment airtight, but I’m still going to put a few nugs there for fun and see how it goes.

The top section gives the XL version of the Old Mate grinder a customizable and expandable component. I believe a stainless steel top cover is planned.
Ease of Use & Spin Factor
The Old Mate Aroma 3 is the funnest weed grinder ever, and the XL version is just as fun.
The XL Old Mate grinder is even easier to turn than the regular version. The larger diameter provides more leverage, making the XL version very easy to use when grinding small amounts.
The Aroma 3 XL has two ball bearings instead of one. The top spinning piece is heavier, but it doesn’t spin any longer than the normal Old Mate grinder.
Cleaning and Maintenance
The standard-sized Old Mate grinder can grind pounds and pounds before needing to be cleaned. I’ve only just begun testing the XL Old Mate. I don’t expect it to perform any differently than the standard version.
It will be easy to clean, and it will last a long time between cleanings.
Best Use Cases
The XL Old Mate is large. It’s heavy enough to make it too big to travel.
This weed grinder is for desktop and at-home sessions.
