This has been a tremendous week for the Cannabis community. This week has been a historical one for the Cannabis community. High profile NFL players have begun pushing for alternatives to the addictive opioids provided by big pharma. Louisiana became the 25th state to legalize medicinal marijuana! Finally, Congress also decided to do the right thing and allow Veterans access to medical marijuana through their VA doctors.
Louisiana Becomes 25th State To Legalize MMJ
We saw another blow for prohibition, on Thursday May 19, Louisiana Governor John Bel Edwards signed Senate Bill 271 into law! Making Louisiana the first state in the south to create a comprehensive medical marijuana program. This also means Louisiana is now the 25th state to open its doors to medical marijuana. Unfortunately, the law doesn’t allow smoking cannabis as the consumption method. Home cultivation is also not an option. It’s still a start though.
Veterans Allowed Access To MMJ
Thursday was another monumental day for the MMJ community. Congress just cleared the way for doctors to recommend medicinal marijuana to Veterans in states where MMJ has been legalized. Previously Veterans seeking MMJ recommendations had to do so outside of the VA and pay for everything out of their pocket. Cannabis has already been proven to be a fantastic treatment for PTSD and chronic pain that is often involved with military injuries.
“The death rate from opioids among VA health care is nearly double the national average,” Representative Earl Blumenauer said in debate over his amendment. “From what I hear from veterans is that medical marijuana has helped them deal with pain and PTSD, particularly as an alternative to opioids.”
This is definitely a step in the right direction for us as a nation. We’re finally starting to put the bullshit politics aside and slowly allowing those in need to have access to medication that can help them.
NFL Players Demand Alternatives To Opioids
Earlier in the week NFL players banded together to demand that the league allow Cannabis use as medicine. Players take dozens of heavy hits each game, not to mention the grueling physical practice they put in on a weekly basis. A few years of professional football will take a major toll on the human body, leaving veteran players in constant pain.
There is a very real concern among the NFL players about opioids being their only option for dealing with pain related to sport injuries. Oxycontin was initially marketed to Doctors as a opioid that’s NOT addictive! As we know today those claims did not turn out to be true. Players are pushing to END cannabis testing, and allow MMJ as an alternative pain treatment.
Whats new with us?
We’ve received several new vaporizers. We’re busting butt getting them all documented and tested. It’s a hard job sitting around vaping cannabis all day – but someone has to do it.
