Bud Bee Grinder Review – Stylish & Spinny Weed Grinder

The Bud Bee is the newest weed grinder on the market and the latest to adopt the trend of spinning ball-bearing grinders.

Its top spins freely on a skateboard bearing, allowing its teeth to float effortlessly as they grind through sticky nugs.

This grinder is made out of Aluminum. It’s available in five colors and two grind plate options.

Spinning Weed Grinder? Why?

The Bud Bee is the fifth weed grinder in my collection to use a built-in ball bearing. At first glance, this may seem gimmicky and unnecessary. I was skeptical but quickly changed my stance when I realized how much easier and fun it is to use.

The top set of teeth floats freely on a skateboard bearing. This makes grinding weed easy because the grinder does not create friction, and the bearing creates leverage.

The spinning grinder top is also immensely entertaining. I spin it constantly, even when I’m not grinding weed.

Sharp, Efficient Teeth

The teeth on the Bud Bee grinder are sharp and effective. They’re quick to cut up nugs. The spinning top makes grinding feel effortless. However, it can still be challenging to turn when overloaded. I usually pull the nug apart into two or three chunks before grinding.

This grinder’s teeth are not the generic diamond pattern. The Bud Bee grinder teeth appear similar to the Brilliant Cut Grinder, one of the best weed grinders available.

My Bud Bee grinder is still being tested, and I need more time to push its limits. So far, the teeth show no signs of dulling or sticking. I’ve tried about 10 grams through its teeth.

Bud Bee grinder teeth after grinding a few nugs

This is what the teeth look like after grinding a few nugs. All grinders leave little bits stuck to the teeth, especially when they’re new. As this grinder gets more experience, the buildup will likely resemble hash.

If the Bud Bee is anything like the Brilliant Cut that its teeth resemble, it will likely never need cleaning. I’ll be updating this review as I continue testing.

Available in Fine and Coarse Grind Options

Bud Bee allows you to choose between a Coarse and a Fine grind plate. The above photo shows the underside of the fine grind plate. I also have the coarse grind plate and will update this review with grind consistency photos very soon.

I prefer the fine grind for vapor and flavor performance. The coarse plate grinds faster, but the herb vapes slower. Smokers may prefer a coarse grind.

Grind Quality & Consistency

The Bud Bee has a very nice grind. It’s consistent and fluffy with the fine grind plate. The coarse plate is also consistent.

More testing is needed before I can approve Bud Bee’s grind. It’s perfect, but many grinders lose performance as the teeth build up and become dull.

Early Concerns

I’m in love with the Bud Bee’s design and performance. It takes my two favorite grinders, Brilliant Cut and Old Mate, and combines their shining features into a single sexy and semi-affordable grinder. It’s cheaper than the Brilliant Cut and the Old Mate, and it seems to work just as well as both.

But it smells and tastes bad. Both of my grinders have a slight oily machine shop smell that leaves an icky smell and taste on my weed.

The Bud Bee is new to the market, and the maker is still figuring things out. I’ve been communicating my experience with the maker, and he’s aware of my issues. I’m optimistic that these issues will be taken care of.

So far, other Bud Bee beta testers have not shared any concerns about the taste or smell of oil. Perhaps I have bad luck. I will continue to monitor other user reviews of the Bud Bee, communicate with the maker, and update this review with their progress.

I’m also concerned about the screw heads in the grind chamber. The Bud Bee’s skateboard bearing is replaceable by removing the three screws located inside the grinding chamber. The top plate comes off to reveal the bearing.

I’m worried that these screw heads are going to gunk up with hash and be impossible to open after a few years of use.

Compared to Other Grinders

Due to the current oil flavor issues, this grinder can’t be put on my recommended grinders list, but I think it will eventually make it. Click here to see the Best Grinders.

The Bud Bee spinning top functions and spins like the Old Mate, my #1 grinder. The Bud Bee is aluminum, and the Old Mate is Stainless Steel. The Bud Bee is lighter and more travel-friendly, but the Old Mate’s stainless steel will last forever.

The Bud Bee’s teeth appear to be very similar to the Brilliant Cut Grinder, another top-tier herb grinder. The Brilliant Cut was the first threadless weed grinder, and its teeth design set the record for the longest time between cleaning. The Brilliant Cut comes in two sizes, 14 colors, and aluminum or stainless steel. Check out my Brilliant Cut Review

The Bud Bee grinder’s finish is superb. It’s on par with the Brilliant Cut and Santa Cruz Shredder. The colors are rich, and the finish looks like automotive enamel—even though it’s anodized aluminum.

The Bud Bee is potentially a top 5 grinder.

I've been medicating with vaporizers, legally, since 2012. I started reviewing dry herb vaporizers and other cannabis products in 2015. I fell in love with creating content around vapes and cannabis vaporization. I'm passionate about the topic and the community. I love bringing people together and I love helping them understand the ins and outs of vaping weed.

this is pretty much everything ive been looking for and wanting in my next grinder, and looks like it potentially has solved my current fine-grind qualms with the old mate (and possibly the other), while also retaining features it seems from my tried & true fave, bcg… with the added coolness of the top and the nice well… and also the fact that he’ll be coming out with stainless steel and XL versions in the future – im dying to get my hands on one of these…!!! and as far as the oil thing goes… even if he doesnt resolve it soon for subsequent customers, i dont think it’d be hard or a big deal imo to clean and bypass, but that’s me personally, and would be a small annoyance that can easily and instantly be surpassed by an initial deep cleaning, compared to the awesome benefits and worthiness of the purchase in the long run…. those are my 2 cents (and really look forward to adding to my collection someday soon)! cheers Troy and thanks for looking out for the absolute best products for the community… much love as always.

Thanks Mike! This one is definitely a winner. I didn’t know they were coming out with a stainless version, that will be badass!! I’ll keep cleaning this one and update as I make progress with testing. Cheers!
